STARTING A NONPROFIT IS LIKE STARTING A SMALL BUSINESS

Let us do the work for you! We’ll guide you through the steps to becoming an independent, successful organization, including incorporation, governing documents, employer ID number, 1023 application, charitable solicitation registration, and other state compliance filings in Maryland. Our Startup Package also includes membership with Maryland Nonprofits for one year.

We Offer Three Customized Packages for Startup Support:

1. 1023EZ (Streamlined Application for Tax Exemption)   Use this option if your organization expects income below $50,000 in each of the first three years.
2. 1023 (Long Form Application for Tax Exemption)   Use this option if your organization expects income above $50,000 in each of the first three years.
3. Reinstatement Of Tax-exempt Status Following Automatic Revocation   Use this option if your organization lost tax exemption for failure to file 990s for three consecutive years.

 

Organizational Development Consultation

You will spend up to two hours with one of our experienced nonprofit startup consultants to ensure your proposed nonprofit is positioned for success. Together we’ll complete all of the documents and filings that support your application for tax exemption. You’ll get a one-year membership with Maryland Nonprofits, opening the door to a huge variety of member benefits and resources.

Forms and Application Preparation

The IRS estimates it takes over 100 hours for a novice to prepare Form 1023. Let us put your application package together! Using your organizational documents, and in consultation with your board of directors, we will complete Form 1023 for you.

State Compliance Filings

Depending upon which Startup Package you need, we will customize your State Compliance Filings to ensure you are up to date with the Secretary of State and Comptroller.  These filings can include Maryland Charitable Solicitation Registration, State income tax exemption application, and Sales & Use tax exemption application.
