The Chesapeake Environmental Protection Association (CEPA) works to restore the Chesapeake Bay by affecting environmental policy and action. CEPA provides education on Bay issues and encourages public activism and involvement in both legislation and enforcement. Learn more about how you can contact your local elected officials about environmental issues and join CEPA.

 

Environmental Concern, Inc. is dedicated to working with all aspects of wetlands; the most productive and fascinating ecosystems in the world. Since EC’s founding in 1972, the restoration division has restored over 35 miles of shoreline in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed using the bioengineering protocol developed by our founder Dr. Garbisch. Learn about EC’s youth programs and upcoming workshops, or become a volunteer and help in the nursery and plant restoration efforts.

The Oyster Recovery Partnership (ORP) plans, promotes and implements science-based and sustainable shellfish restoration, aquaculture and wild fishery activities to protect our environment, support our economy and preserve our cultural heritage. Want to host shell bagging, shell recycling, or other oyster planting events? Learn how your organization can get involved or become a sponsor.

Phillips Wharf Environmental Center (PWEC) provides hands-on education and preservation in the Chesapeake Bay. PWEC informs, inspires, and involves all ages. PWEC offers the Fishmobile, a traveling marine science program that includes a 50 minute structured educational module, Horseshoe Crabs, Diamondback Terrapins, and more. Be sure to visit their upcoming Oyster Painting event on August 7th!

 

South River Federation protects, preserves, restores and celebrates the South River and its interdependent living community. They believe in a holistic approach to cleaning up the South River and utilize all available tools, ranging from scientific water quality monitoring, to rain garden installation, to large-scale stream restoration, to one-on-one landowner education. Learn about South River’s upcoming BioBlitz, a 24-hour event to find and identify as many species of plants, fish, insects, and other organisms in the area. Volunteers and sponsors are needed!

 

Water Stewardship, Inc. (WSI) is an independent science-based nonprofit whose mission is to strengthen private and public sector efforts to reduce nutrient and sediment pollution of rivers, lakes and coastal waters. WSI strives to improve water quality while also maintaining and enhancing agricultural profitability.
