Maryland Nonprofits, the statewide association for nonprofits in Maryland, has selected Tobeka G. Green as Chief Operating Officer.
“I’m elated to join this top-flight team at Maryland Nonprofits as the organization celebrates 30 years of strengthening nonprofits and networks for greater quality of life and equity,” said Ms. Green. “Maryland Nonprofits understands that mission-driven organizations are lifelines in our communities. Strengthening their infrastructure, fund, and strategic development capacity is critical to solving the systemic challenges we face and to creating an equitable future.”
Tobeka Green’s professional expertise and passion is advancing equity by building the capacity of business, community, and faith leaders and improving the infrastructure, visibility, and performance of nonprofit organizations. She is a veteran C-suite executive with diverse nonprofit and corporate management experience. Prior to joining Maryland Nonprofits, she served six years as President and CEO of the National Black Child Development Institute and has also served as Senior Managing Director at the District of Columbia Promise Neighborhood Initiative, an Obama Administration anti-poverty initiative; CEO of Communities In Schools (CIS) of the Nation’s Capital; Vice President of Information Systems at America’s Promise Alliance and Director of New Media at the Points of Light Foundation.
As COO, Ms. Green will be charged with leading membership, operations, marketing, and fundraising at Maryland Nonprofits and will report directly to President & CEO Heather Iliff.

She brings phenomenal experience and professionalism, and her talents will enable us to achieve operational excellence as we expand our advocacy and support for the nonprofit community,” said Heather Iliff. “Tobeka has a tremendous commitment and an impressive track record of advancing equity that will enhance every aspect of our work at Maryland Nonprofits.” Tobeka earned a Master of Public Administration from Baruch College – City University of New York where she was a National Urban Fellow and a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Florida A&M University. She currently serves as Secretary of the Illinois Action for Children Board of Directors.
