Building Capacity for Aging Well
Maryland Nonprofits is proud to partner with Enterprise on the Thome Aging Well Program, an initiative designed to strengthen the organizational capacity, leadership, and long-term sustainability of nonprofit organizations serving older adults with low incomes across Maryland.
As part of this initiative, Maryland Nonprofits is launching a seven-session, cohort-based learning opportunity, taking place from mid-October 2026 through February 2027. The cohort will offer participating organizations targeted learning, capacity-building support, individualized coaching, and opportunities for peer exchange and connection.
🌱 About the Cohort
This cohort is designed for larger, established nonprofit organizations seeking to elevate their service delivery and provide an even higher level of care for the older adults they serve.
Through targeted learning, peer exchange, and capacity-building support, participating organizations will explore strategies that:
- Build staff knowledge, skills, and overall capacity
- Support stronger communication and collaboration among staff
- Expand outreach and services to new older adult populations
- Contribute to strengthening the organization’s long-term sustainability and impact
This cohort will help organizations build upon their existing strengths while equipping staff and leadership with the tools and practices needed to work more effectively, collaborate successfully, and better serve older adults in their communities. Two to three leaders (decision makers: executive director, senior team members, team leads) from each selected organization will be invited to participate in the cohort.

We are seeking organizations that are ready to engage meaningfully in learning, reflection, capacity building, and organizational growth that will contribute to enhancing the quality of care provided to the older adults they serve.

✅ Eligibility Requirements
Organizations applying for the cohort should:
- Serve older adults and/or support aging well within their communities
- Have operated as a mission-driven organization for more than 10 years
- Have an annual operating budget of more than $1 million
- Employ 10 or more staff members
- Be located within the State of Maryland
- Be willing to participate in pre-assessment activities, cohort training sessions, and individualized coaching
- Commit the necessary staff and/or leadership time to participate fully in the cohort experience
