Clean Air

  • Indicator: Tree canopy cover and total acres lost
  • Source: Global Forest Change Survey (Hansen/UMD/Google/USGS/NASA)
  • Years included: 2001-2016

We chose this indicator as a proxy for air quality measures that could be disaggregated on the county level that allows us to measure factors that affect air quality. Trees have a net positive impact on the concentration of particulate pollution in the air, as well as a variety of positive effects on air temperature, environmental resilience, and overall quality of life and livability.
