What We Do

Convening & Connecting 

MLU brings together and engages stakeholders from academia, nonprofit organizations, government, and the private sector to build multi-sector partnerships. Our purpose is to encourage knowledge exchange and joint initiatives that address complex social, economic, and environmental issues. 

We: 

  • Identify and amplify local efforts to scale statewide 
  • Invest in community initiatives like crisis management and civic engagement 

Leadership and Organizational Development 

We provide technical assistance and training to build community leaders, strengthen Latino-serving nonprofits and government agencies in areas such as: 

  • Cultural competence 
  • Advocacy training and coalition building 
  • Communications and social media storytelling 
  • Development and fundraising strategies 
  • Grant writing and meeting facilitation 
  • Coalition-building and cross-sectoral collaboration 

Public Policy & Advocacy 

We champion equity and social justice by: 

  • Tracking legislation and executive actions 
  • Advocating for social, economic, health, and environmental justice 
  • Promoting language access at all levels of government 
  • Amplifying the voices of those who are not at the table via Community-Centered approaches 
  • Prioritizing co-creation with affected communities, ensuring that their voices shape research, policy, and programs. 

Research and Data Collection

We engage in integrated research, policy, and education to: 

  • Bridge the gap between data-driven research and policy implementation via Community Needs Assessments (CNAs) and Knowledge, Attitude, and Practices (KAP) surveys. 
  • Adapt strategies based on lessons learned to refine interventions and improve outcomes 

And, we, 

  • Use data and evaluation frameworks to assess program effectiveness and long-term impact. 

The Center of Leadership, Strategy, and Innovation (LSI)

Advancing Latine Leadership and Strategy

The LSI provides bilingual programs designed to empower individuals, communities, and nonprofits. Our areas of expertise include: 

  • Leadership development 
  • Strategic planning and fundraising tools 
  • Grant writing essentials
  • Advocacy strategies and resources

Membership Dues

Associate Membership provides access for all employees of a business or government agency. Join as an Associate.

Affiliate, Student, and Retired Executive memberships are for individuals. Join as an Individual.

Advocate Membership demonstrates your support of MLU and the and Maryland’s Latino community and does not include membership in Maryland Nonprofits. Join as an Advocate.
