For more than 30 years, Maryland Nonprofits has championed a stronger, more effective nonprofit sector, providing advocacy, resources, and support as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and statewide membership association.
Our membership comprises nonprofits, businesses that serve nonprofits, government agencies, students, and individuals.
We meet our member organizations where they are, working alongside them to navigate challenges, embrace opportunities, and create lasting impact.
Member benefits include access to educational resource materials, discounted workshops and conferences, discounts on products and services such as liability insurance and background checks, and representation in Annapolis and on Capitol Hill regarding the shared public policy priorities of Maryland’s nonprofit sector.
Maryland Nonprofits’ mission is to strengthen organizations for greater quality of life and equity.
Nonprofits have the power and capacity to advance and sustain vibrant, connected, and equitable communities.

Maryland Nonprofits envisions an inclusive culture where dismantling racism and oppressive systems is an ongoing part of our awareness, work, reality, and outcomes.
Our equity mission is to challenge systems of power, aiming to provide full access to resources and opportunities for those directly affected by all forms of oppression and practices, ensuring they genuinely have the opportunity to thrive and attain a high quality of life.
Since 1992, Maryland Nonprofits has been the statewide leader in strengthening and advocating for the nonprofit sector. Founded with 139 charter members, we quickly became a hub for collaboration, training, and policy advocacy.
In 1998, we launched the Standards for Excellence® Program, setting a national benchmark for nonprofit ethics and accountability. That same year, we founded the Maryland Budget & Tax Policy Institute, which later became the independent Maryland Center for Economic Policy in 2013. Our Consulting Group, launched in 2005, continues to provide critical support to hundreds of organizations annually, and in 2008, we successfully championed the creation of the Nonprofit Development Center to assist small nonprofits.
Maryland Nonprofits has grown through key partnerships, integrating the Charge Up Collaborative in 2015, the Maryland Association of Resources for Families and Youth (MARFY) in 2016, and Maryland Latinos Unidos (MLU) in 2020.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, we mobilized quickly, tripling participation in our programs and securing $60 billion in nonprofit relief. In 2022, we launched ‘This is the Moment to Care’, a statewide campaign promoting care, equity, and well-being in the nonprofit workforce, alongside the Nonprofit Accelerator Program, a $5 million state-funded initiative to strengthen small and under-resourced nonprofits.
Now with 1,800 members, Maryland Nonprofits continues to be the leading advocate and resource hub for nonprofits in Maryland. In 2024, we introduced a comprehensive rebrand, reinforcing our commitment to equity, collaboration, and innovation.
