For women returning home after incarceration, finding a job can be about much more than submitting an application. It can mean rebuilding confidence, learning how to talk about the past without letting it define the future, and remembering just how much they still have to offer.
That’s where Perfect, Inc. comes in.
Led and run by women, Perfect, Inc. serves women returning from incarceration who are ready for a fresh start and a new career. Through a 12-week program, participants develop skills that can help them move forward professionally, but the organization says the real heart of its work goes deeper.
It’s about helping women remember who they are.
Perfect, Inc. works with each participant to rebuild confidence and recognize the strengths, values, and experiences she already carries with her. Incarceration may be one part of her story, but it doesn’t have to determine what comes next.
One former participant is proof of what that can look like.
While working with Perfect, Inc., she found an opening at a veterinary clinic. The team helped her prepare for the interview, including changing the way she thought about her past.
Instead of approaching her history as something she needed to apologize for or hide, she learned how to talk about what she had overcome and the strength it took to get where she was.
She got the job.
Years later, she reached back out to Perfect, Inc. with an update: She was celebrating her five-year work anniversary.
“If it weren’t for us, she wouldn’t be celebrating a five-year work anniversary,” the organization shared. “And this year, she is.”
It’s one person’s milestone, but it captures the larger work happening through Perfect, Inc. across Maryland.
A new job can mean income and stability. But having someone remind you that you are smart, capable, and worthy of another chapter can change the way you walk into that opportunity in the first place.
