For individuals living with disabilities, independence can mean having the confidence and support to navigate everyday life. For nearly four decades, Fidos For Freedom has helped make that possible through specially trained service dogs and a commitment to improving quality of life.
Founded in 1987, Fidos For Freedom serves Maryland and the surrounding DMV region, connecting individuals with dogs trained to meet specific needs. Its mission centers on enhancing independence, providing companionship, and helping people experience a greater sense of connection in their communities.
The organization’s work includes training hearing and mobility service dogs, as well as service dogs that assist veterans experiencing combat-related post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). These partnerships offer practical support while helping individuals navigate daily challenges with greater confidence.
But Fidos For Freedom’s impact extends beyond the individuals receiving service dogs.
Through public education, the organization raises awareness about people with disabilities and the important roles service dogs and therapy dogs can play. By encouraging understanding and inclusion, Fidos For Freedom helps build communities where individuals with disabilities feel seen, supported, and empowered.
Since its founding, the organization has reached tens of thousands of Marylanders through its services and educational efforts.
Fidos For Freedom demonstrates that meaningful change often begins with connection. Whether through a trained service dog, a therapy dog visit, or a conversation that increases public understanding, the organization continues to create opportunities for greater independence and companionship.
That’s how Fidos For Freedom gets it done.
Through decades of dedication, specialized training, and a commitment to the people it serves, Fidos For Freedom is helping create a more accessible and inclusive Maryland.
